More and more people are choosing to include CBD into their daily routines, to help with certain aspects of their health and wellness. One area that some people have recommended it for is improving concentration levels during daily life. Today, we’re looking at CBD for energy and focus and how it might be able to help.
Why might people struggle with energy and focus?
Modern life means that we’re all very busy people! Sometimes, it can be difficult to get the recommended amount of sleep each night, or we might simply feel overwhelmed with all the different things that are going on in life. Other times, we might have no idea why but we just feel particularly sleepy!
This can lead us to feel very low in energy on some days, and we can also struggle to focus and concentrate when this happens. That’s because our mind is constantly flicking from one thing to another and losing track of what we were doing. This can be very irritating if we are at work or trying to get important tasks and errands done, or even just enjoy ourselves to the fullest at the weekend.
A lack of energy and focus can also be a symptom or knock-on effect of more serious mental health disorders, such as depression. Whatever the cause or severity of you lacking in energy and struggling to focus, it’s likely that you will want to find a way to deal with it.
Can you use CBD for energy and focus?
Since CBD is extracted from the cannabis plant, some people wrongly associate it with marijuana and believe that it will make you feel sleepy and less focused. This is a common myth! CBD, or cannabidiol, is not psychoactive (unlike the compound THC which is found in marijuana), meaning it does not give you a feeling of being high or losing concentration and focus.
Instead, many people have found that CBD can help them with both their energy levels and their ability to focus on specific tasks.
A 2014 scientific article looked into just this area, investigating the potential effects of cannabidiol as a ‘wake-promoting agent’. They concluded that it would be worth exploring ‘the potential therapeutic properties of the use of CBD to treat and manage sleepiness’, citing its potential to modulate the sleep-wake cycle.
Other studies have reported that CBD can enhance the effects of anandamide in the body. Anandamide, often referred to as the ‘bliss molecule’, is part of your body’s endocannabinoid system. It is produced naturally and it’s thought it interacts with our cannabinoid receptors to regulate bodily functions, including mood, learning and memory.
It therefore makes sense that CBD would have an impact on energy levels as it interacts with your endocannabinoid system to prolong the availability of endocannabinoids like anandamide.
Indeed, a journalist who tried taking CBD for seven days found that they were more focused at work with a sense of clarity and calm that allowed them to concentrate.
It is also though that CBD can help with certain concerns such as anxiety or improving the quality of sleep, which could then have a positive knock-on effect on your overall levels of energy and ability to concentrate.
Everyone is different and so will likely feel the effects of CBD differently, but if you’re currently looking for something to help with your energy and focus levels, it might be worth giving it a go to see how you get on!
How should you use CBD?
If you want to use CBD for energy and focus, it is recommended that you make it a part of your daily supplement routine rather than trying it as a one-off. This will give you the greatest chance of feeling the effects of the CBD.
CBD oil drops are probably the best option for you here, because they allow the CBD to be absorbed directly into your bloodstream. The best way to use these is orally, by holding them underneath your tongue for a short spell before swallowing.
For CBD beginners, we recommend our 5% full-spectrum CBD oil drops.
